Greater Works Baptist Church

Verily, verily, I say unto you He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also;
 and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. St. John 14:12

Greater Works Baptist Church Historical Beginning

The Greater Works Baptist Church (GWBC) was organized as led by Christ on July 9, 1994 at 7:00pm.
Dr. Sterling Lands, II, of Greater Calvary Baptist Church, Austin, Texas, gave us guidance and directions. He provided a facility for GWBC to meet. We became a corporation by the official name of Greater Works Baptist Church.

God blessed us with Rev. Leonard D. James, Sr., as our leader, the one God chose to proclaim His Gospel. The church was organized with 14 adults and 6 youths. Bro. Wilton Gash was chosen by Pastor James to serve as our first Deacon. Sis. Barbara Williams served as church treasurer and Sis. Yvonne Winn as the church clerk. God revealed the church name to Pastor James through the scripture found in St. John 14:12.

Our first Sunday School and Morning Worship was on July 10, 1994 at the home of Pastor and Sis. James.  Pastor James' first message to the church was "Empowered to Do Greater Works", St. John 14:11-14; Acts 1:8.

The following Sunday the church met at the Arthur B. DeWitty Center for Sunday School and Morning Worship.  God blessed us to start having Sunday School and Worship Service in a building located at 5843 Berkman Drive, on July 24, 1994.  The Sunday School lesson, "God is With Us", Exodus Chapter 25, 29, 40.  The Worship message, "Where There is Unity, There is Strength", I Corinthians 11:17-18; I Corinthians 12:20-24.  The first Lords’ Supper was with Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church family, Rev. Charles Gillespie on December 4, 1994.

In the year 2000, we broke ground and started the building process. By the grace and provisions of God, the building was lifted and completed January 2002. With hearts of praise we walked into our new church home at 4000 Tannehill Lane, on Sunday the 20th of January.

On our 22nd church anniversary, July 10, 2016, we held a mortgage burning celebration. This was a major milestone for the church. The celebration message was delivered by Pastor Kevin Pullam.

Special recognition to our Pastor, for his God given vision and staying power; to Pastor Kevin Pullam and Pastor William Pullam respectively, who blessed us with  inspirational messages since 1995 for our Church Anniversary and Pastor & Wife Appreciation.

God has saved us, delivered us, and set us free to share the good news that He still saves today.  Many prayers, great deeds, beautiful gifts and God given talents have surfaced to establish the Greater Works Baptist Church.  All to be used for the glory of God.  Our hearts sing out, "Look Where the Lord has Brought Us"!
